Goal:
Setup and use iChat as your chat software for Facebook.
This is no longer possible. Facebook shutdown their Jabber support, in favor for their more comprehensive Facebook Chat app.
Note:
As revenue is reduced by allowing external dilution of the "brand", this compatibility no longer exists. Use a competitor product, preferably an open-source one.
Instructions:
1. Start iChat.
2. Under iChat on the menubar, choose Preferences
3. Under the Accounts area, click the + (plus) to create a new account.
4. Choose Jabber as the account type.
5. Enter your facebook name with the domain facebook.com.
(e.g. Jane.Doe@chat.facebook.com *)
6. Enter your facebook password, and check the remember checkbox if you wish iChat to store it in your keychain.
7. Click the twistie to open up the Server Settings.
8. Enter chat.facebook.com as the server.
9. Enter 5222 as the port number.
10. Leave the rest alone and click Done, you will login and see your active Facebook contacts.
* Note: To get your facebook id, login to Facebook. Then click your name so your go to your profile. Your name/identity will then be after the www.facebook.com domain name. (e.g. www.facebook.com/jane.doe/)
