Pre-Requisites for DAOS:
1. You need Lotus Domino 8.5.
2. You need to enable the DAOS service on each Lotus Domino 8.5 or higher server.
Configuration tab --> Servers twistie --> Open server document --> Edit Mode --> DAOS tab --> Change Disabled to Enabled. Select the minimum size (after compression) where an attachment will be stored in the NLO folder on the server instead of in the document.
3. You need to enable applications to use DAOS.
Files tab --> Select application (database) --> Application Properties --> Select the Use Domino Attachment & Object Service.

Note: Only 8.5 Notes clients see this property option.

Overview:
Once enabled on the server & in the application (usually via template), attachments over a desired size are stored outside the database as NLO files in the NLO folder. They exist there until "pruned"/purged. DAOS purges old attachments when last copy is removed. This pruning is automatically done at 2:00am.

Pruning can be delayed when the system detects it's out of sync (has a NEEDS RESYNC status). This typically occurs when DAOS enabled databases are copied back on the Domino server, into the data folder, by an administrator restoring a database such as a mailfile. To resync issue the "tell daosmgr resync".

NLOs for an application of all DAOS files can be obtained with the "tell daosmgr listnlo all myapp.nsf". If you think some are missing, then issue the command "tell daosmgr listnlo missing myfile.nsf".
