Issue:
Unable to change default IP of the default VLAN1 of new switch from DHCP address given.
This is evidently a "feature".
There are three solutions/workarounds possible:
1. Enable SSH for the device, and login via SSH and change IP.
or
2. Setup a second VLAN, with it's own static IP address, set it as default (which will dim it out), but this will cause the VLAN1 original LAN network to no longer be dimmed out and can be edited.
or
3. Run the Getting Started --> Getting Started Wizard.
Option 1:
1. Enable SSH:
Security twistie --> TCP/UDP Services
Click the Enable checkbox next to SSH Service. Click Apply. Click the Save icon at the top.
2. SSH into the switch using the admin ID and password. Navigate to the default IP setting and change.
Option 2:
If you don't want to use the SSH option, or you don't want to run the Wizard (option 3), we can set up a second VLAN, then edit the first VLAN and switch IP.
1. Create VLAN2.
VLAN Management (twistie) --> VLAN Settings (option)
- Click the add blue Plus symbol/icon to create a new VLAN.
- - VLAN ID: 2
- - VLAN Name: Add an appropriate name.
- - VLAN Interface State: Enabled.
- - Link Status SNMP Traps: Enabled.
- - Click Apply. Click Close.
2. Update VLAN1
- Click the edit icon, to edit VLAN1, set the VLAN to static.
- Click Apply to save, Click Close.
3. Remove VLAN2.
- Click the selection checkbox next to VLAN2.
- Click the trash icon to remove.
Note: After you confirm that the switch is still accessible, click the Save icon at the top to make permanent.
Option 3:
Configuration Wizards (left) --> Getting Started Wizards --> Click Launch Wizard... button.
- On the Welcome tab/page, click Next.
- On the 1. General Information tab/page, click Next.
- On the 2. IP Settings tab/page:
- - Interface, choose VLAN, and 1.
- - IP Interface Source, choose Static.
- - IP Address, update to desired static IP. (e.g. 10.0.5.35)
- - Network Mask, update to proper mask (e.g. 255.255.255.0)
- - Administrative Default Gateway, update to the network gateway (e.g. 10.0.5.1)
- - DNS Server, update to the appropriate DNS server (e.g. 10.0.5.1).
- - Click Next.
- On the 3. User Account tab/page, click Next.
- On the 4. Time Settings tab/page, click Next.
- On the 5. Summary tab/page, review settings for accuracy and click Apply.
- Close.
Note: After you confirm that the switch is still accessible, click the Save icon at the top to make permanent.
