Issue Timeouts with Outlook 2002 (not SP2) receiving mail.
- Timeout no receiving
- Duplicate message download
- Repeated login prompts.
CAUSE
POP3 retrieval design in Outlook 2002 (before SP2) sometimes does not issue the commands to retrieve and delete messages at the same time like it is supposed to do.
(A Request for Comment (RFC) requirement that indicates that the RETR and DELE commands must occur in one session.)
SOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP.
