The "Force Quit" command is almost always accessible via the Apple menu or more often when stuck via the keyboard command:
Command (Apple) +> Option +> Esc

This should bring up the list of applications. Choose the unresponsive one from the list and press the "Force Quit" button.

If this does not work, find the power button, depress for about 2 seconds and you will see the machine shut down. Note: This will cause your system to do a "hard" / "dirty" shutdown. Data loss of open documents is certain as no save dialogs will be presented to you.
