The A & B methods.
With telephony, tip (T) refers to the positive (+) side, and ring (R) refers to the negative side of the circuit. The white/blue pair (the first pair in the cable) consists of two wires that are twisted together. They are the white/blue (tip) and the blue/white (ring). The white/blue wire is predominately white with a blue stripe. The blue/white is the inverse, predominately blue with a white stripe.
