Assumptions:
Wiping of existing or new installation. Installation from CD onto RAID mirrored drives.
BEGIN SETUP:
1. Make sure the server is unlocked (lock is set to "unlock" -- fully clockwise).
2. Put the OSX Server Software CD 1 in the drive. (Server will suck cd when most of the way in the drive)
3. Boot the server. Hold down the "c" button and wait through the blue screen into the gray one. Takes about 2-3 minutes.
4. Accept the agreement and continue until you get to the page where you select an installation drive.
4. From the Installer application menu, select the "Open Disk Utility" option to begin RAID setup.
RAID SETUP:
1. Select the RAID tab in the main window within the options along the upper portion of window.
2. Drag the two disks to be matched. Change type from "Stripe" to "Mirror".
3. Enter the RAID set name (Make up something cool).
4. Select the proper volume setup (Mac OS Extended Journaled).
5. Click the Create button.
6. Repeat setups 2-5 if creating a second match.
7. Exit the Disk Utility to be retuned to the installation.
SETUP CONTINUATION:
5. Select the raid drives you combined. They should have the name you specified in step 4.
6. Choose Customized option (rather than typical) if you wish to wish to add optional components.
7. Wait while it checks/formats the drive. (Takes 5-10 minutes).
8. XServe will automatically reboot to continue the installation. Once it reboots, it will probably request the second CD. Insert it when requested.
9. Wait while the installation continues. (Takes about 5 minutes).
SERVER CONFIGURATION:
10. Continue with the prompts.
11. Enter the OS X Serial number when requested. (The number is with your manual and cd that shipped with server.)
12. Choose the services to run at launch. Choose the language, time-zone, and network settings.
13. XServe will automatically reboot to complete the basic configuration section of the installation
